The famous German painter Leo Assenmacher (1904-1981) was born in Aachen but became famous in Düsseldorf. In this capital city, Assenmacher is not only famous for his paintings, but he also received high praise from the Art industry for his input and support since he joined the Malkasten Artists Association in 1924.

Assenmacher studied murals with his father, Herman Josef Assenmacher, and then entered the Kunstgewerbeschule and Technical University in Aachen, and studied painting with Eugen Klinkenberg. At the age of 20, he left his birthplace to the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he studied under Professors D?rniger, Spatz, Netzer and Langerand. Later he became a master student under Professor Adolf Münzer. During the school years, Assenmacher has received a large number of orders, and the wonderful murals in the Peter Cathedral in Bonn are also his works.

Assenmacher's paintings are very broad, including the landscape on his journey, portraits, still lifes and nudes. He is even considered to be the representative of the German post-impressionist.
